I like having a manual when driving on the wrong side if the road as it helps remind me that something's different. Automatic transmission usually increases rental prices greatly. Having been there at the end of June I don't know if you'll need A/C but it's available. You'll find lots of roundabouts everywhere - but you'll catch on quickly enough. Remember it's left side driving in Ireland, just like England. I didn't drive in Dublin and but did in several other cities. The roads are narrow! especially out in the country. I agree with someone else's comment that you should get a small car. Ryanair connects you to the biggest brands in car hire. They provided my rental through Dan Dooley. They seem to like French cars and one of them seem to have a dodgy fuel gauge so had to show the fuel receipt to show we had actually filled it to the top when returning the car.I rented in Ireland for 10 days in June/July.
Neither of us actually got the class of car we hired as they weren't available, we ended up with larger cars which was fine. Can't understand all the negative reviews here, perhaps we were fortunate or used them during quiet season. No real wait time for collection or return and staff were friendly and polite at Dublin airport. If you don't purchase their expensive excess waiver they need a 1500 euro hold on your credit card but they didn't charge the card and drop off was smooth. Shuttle bus dropped us to europcar car park 10 mins from airport and we picked up cars without issue. That said the two cars we hired were only 2 years old and in good condition, just right for driving around on holiday for a week. DO NOT RENT from CARHIRE or RENTALCAR.COMĬheap and cheerful - direct through carhire.ieĬar rental for 9 euros per day is about as cheap as it comes and for that cost we didnt expect perfection. I am hopeful that my Visa company can help me with the dispute.

I have all documents, no where does it say to have a suitcase full of cash with me for extra charges. replied to me and basically said it's due to my poor planning of not bringing 900 Euro in cash so no refund. I ask Carhire for a refund and was told to contact since I booked it through them. I gave up because I don't have that on hand, walked next door to AVIS who charged a little less but would do it all on my Visa. He would not give me car until I find the 900 Euro in cash. NO CARDS accepted for this extra charge amount. Carhire employee then tells me the additional 900 Euro needs to be in cash only. Carhire asked for additional 900 Euro for insurance on top of already prepaid 938 Euro for Car. I agreed to purchase additional Insurance through Carhire. On arrival to pickup car, I was informed that Insurance plan sold to me by was invalid.
